Our team is looking for volunteers to join us to help maintain our vegetable and wildlife garden for school and family use during our farm visits.

Purpose of role

To assist Worcestershire Wildlife Trust run its school visit service and events by maintaining a safe and engaging garden space for children to explore and complete activities as well as providing a home for many different types of wildlife.

Type of work

You will join our garden volunteer team and assist us to plan, grow and maintain the school wildlife garden. This will involve a variety of manual practical tasks including digging, raking, lifting and watering to keep the garden looking its best.

Experience/skills needed

  1. Experienced gardener with a strong knowledge about how to grow a selection of vegetables and flowers.
  2. Interest and enthusiasm about wildlife gardening, organic gardening and aims of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.
  3. A basic knowledge of UK wildlife is helpful but you don’t need to be an expert!
  4. Able to work flexibly and use initiative.
  5. Able to work in a team.
  6. Happy to work outside in all weathers.
  7. Reasonable level of fitness – you’ll be on your feet for up to three hours carrying out practical tasks.
  8. Understanding of health and safety procedures. 

This position will require you to provide details of two referees. We will also invite you to an informal chat.

Time/days per week

The group runs on a Thursday and you're welcome to come along for however long you'd like to, whether morning, afternoon or a combination of both. You don't have to commit to coming weekly.

You will join a sociable group of gardeners and have the chance to learn new skills such as hedge-laying and learn about our soil improvement and pollinator projects at the farm. You will receive health and safety and safeguarding training.
