Working for Worcestershire Wildlife Trust

This next section will focus on the roles within our Trust. To make it easier to find what type of role you are interested in, the table below gives a very quick introduction to each of our teams - click on the team name to find out more information about roles within these teams.

Engagement

Responsible for engaging, educating, supporting and inspiring families, young people, nature enthusiasts and communities, getting them involved in and taking action for wildlife and nature conservation. This team connects people with wildlife, giving everyone the opportunity to access, appreciate and enjoy nature.

Nature reserves

Responsible for caring for and managing our 75+ nature reserves (as well as most of our volunteers) across the county. Also responsible for organising contractors, graziers, Basic Payments and more.

Communications

Responsible for raising awareness of the Trust including running our website and social media platforms, producing our magazine and other publications, liaising with the media, developing site interpretation, Trust branding and all other forms of external communication/marketing.

Fundraising and membership

Responsible for recruiting and retaining members (income from membership accounts for around 50% of the Trust’s income) and for developing and submitting grant applications for projects such as land purchase and habitat restoration. Also responsible for our retail - Christmas cards to virtual gifts.

Finance & administration

Responsible for managing all the Trust finances and purchasing. Also responsible for commercial bookings, hiring out our conference and meeting facilities to professional bodies.

Wider countryside

Responsible for all nature conservation matters outside of our own land. Advising and training land managers and working with local authorities across the county to enhance and protect wildlife on their land, whether by advising on use of fertilisers or enhancing new developments for wildlife.

Volunteer management & development

Responsible for supporting the Trust in recruiting, communicating and developing our relationship with our c400 volunteers. Volunteering is critically important to us. 

 

Before we look at specific roles and what kind of skills and experience you’ll need for different parts of the organisation, almost all our roles will require to demonstrate experience in the following:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to organise and plan work effectively/good time management
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Work with and/or managing volunteers
  • Flexibility and ability to respond to changing circumstances and demands
  • Ability to use initiative, solve problems and identify where you need help
  • Personal enthusiasm for the Trust’s work
  • First Aid qualification (the level needed may depend on the role but training will be provided if needed)
  • Happy to work evenings and weekends (how much will depend on the role)
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and implementation
  • A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent knowledge and experience
