Help us create Worcestershire Wildlife Trust’s largest woodland nature reserve for nature and people.

A woodland shaped over centuries

In spring, bluebells and woodland flowers carpet the floor of Trench Wood. Butterflies drift through sunny woodland rides, woodland birds nest among mature trees and rare bats shelter beneath the canopy.

Part of the historic Forest of Feckenham landscape, Trench Wood is one of Worcestershire’s richest ancient woodlands. Ancient trees, wildflower glades and winding woodland paths provide refuge for a remarkable variety of wildlife, including rare butterflies, woodland birds and elusive Bechstein’s bats.

This is a landscape shaped by time, nature and careful management. A place where wildlife still finds refuge.

Today, Trench Wood sits increasingly isolated from the wider landscape around it but we have a rare opportunity to change that.

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust has the chance to secure 45 hectares of land at Trench Farm, directly adjoining the reserve. By securing this land, we can more than double the size of Trench Wood and begin restoring a bigger, more connected landscape for wildlife.

With your support, we can create new woodland, restore wildflower-rich grassland and create more space for wildlife to move, feed, breed and thrive once again.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us so far. Can you help us to reach our target before December 2026 to secure this land for wildlife?

Creating a bigger, more connected landscape

Ancient woodlands like Trench Wood cannot simply be recreated.

When habitats become isolated, wildlife populations become smaller, weaker and more vulnerable. By reconnecting woodland, meadow and grassland habitats across the wider landscape, we can create more space for wildlife to recover and flourish.

The land at Trench Farm includes a mixture of woodland, semi-improved grassland and former arable fields, with huge potential for habitat restoration.

Together, we can help create a richer, more resilient landscape for wildlife across the historic Forest of Feckenham.

What your support will make possible

Through this project we will:

  • Restore species-rich grassland and wildflower meadow
  • Create 17 hectares of new native woodland
  • Protect and improve existing woodland habitats
  • Reinstate traditional woodland pasture
  • Create ponds, glades and woodland edge habitats
  • Strengthen habitat links between nearby woodland fragments
  • Support a larger and more resilient landscape for wildlife within the historic Forest of Feckenham

Together, this work will create more space for wildlife to move, feed, breed and thrive.

Future management and community benefit

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust has already assumed management responsibility for the site under agreement with the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

Following acquisition, the land will be incorporated into the Trench Wood nature reserve and managed through woodland planting, meadow restoration and ecological monitoring.

The expanded reserve will also provide opportunities for volunteering, education and community engagement through our wider A Network for Nature project.

Local schools, volunteers and community groups will help take part in tree planting, wildlife surveys and practical conservation work.

A bigger vision for nature recovery

The acquisition of Trench Farm forms part of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust’s wider A Network for Nature project, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The project has secured Development Stage funding and aims to reconnect habitats and support nature recovery across the historic Forest of Feckenham landscape.

By working at a landscape scale, we can create bigger, better and more joined-up habitats for wildlife while helping more people connect with nature.

Help us secure this land for wildlife

For centuries, Trench Wood has provided refuge for wildlife within the historic Forest of Feckenham landscape. Now, we have a rare opportunity to create more space for wildlife to recover and thrive.

We have a limited window to raise the remaining funds needed to secure it permanently for wildlife and people.

This is the final stage of fundraising needed to make this vision a reality.

Every donation, large or small, will help create a bigger, more connected future for wildlife in Worcestershire.

Thank you for helping us protect one of Worcestershire’s most important wild places.
