Our volunteer team at Blackhouse Wood are looking for volunteers to help them manage one of our newest nature reserves near Suckley.

Purpose of Role

Our practical conservation volunteers are an essential part of the team working on nature reserves across the county. Volunteers help with practical conservation management to maintain the sites special features for now and for the future.

Type of work

Blackhouse Wood has a varied geology, which creates a diverse and fabulous range of species; a number of flower species uncommon in Worcestershire can be found here. Tasks include coppicing to encourage butterfly and moth communities and scrub clearance to open up the ground level fauna, as with many of our reserves we work on rotation to create a mixed aged within the woodland.

Basic information

  • Interest and enthusiasm for nature and wildlife conservation
  • Willingness to work outside in all weathers
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Basic use of hand tools -training will be given
  • Willingness to be involved in a number of tasks as directed
  • Suitable for everyone with a basic level of fitness

Time/days

One morning once a month, work parties take place on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 10am (Sept-Mar only).
