Our volunteer team at Broadway Gravel Pit is looking for more pairs of hands to help them manage this small but beautiful nature reserve on the edge of the village.

Purpose of Role

Our practical conservation volunteers are an essential part of the team working on nature reserves across the county. Volunteers help with practical conservation management to maintain the sites special features for now and for the future.

Type of work

This seasonally-flooded former gravel pit features open water, scrub and carr woodland and is home to birds, dragonflies and over 160 species of plant. Tasks include willow pollarding, path maintenance and general habitat management. 

Basic information

  • Interest and enthusiasm for nature and wildlife conservation
  • Willingness to work outside in all weathers
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team
  • Basic use of hand tools; training will be given
  • Willingness to be involved in a number of tasks as directed
  • Suitable for everyone with a basic level of fitness

Time/days

The group meet on the first Monday of every month 10am - 1pm.
