Green Farm – Engagement Officer

Green Farm – Engagement Officer

Closing date:
Salary: £24,960 FTE (0.6 FTE)
Contract type: Fixed term / Working hours: Part time
We're looking for someone who can inspire communities to love and take action for nature in and around our Monkwood nature reserve.

You

We’re looking for someone who is highly personable, passionate and organised. You’re equally comfortable building relationships in communities as you are tree planting and you’re committed to supporting community-powered action. This role will enable you to make a real difference to nature’s recovery and to be part of our vision to protect 30% of land and sea by 2030.

Us

Community engagement is an essential part of the Trust’s work.  We recognise that to give nature the best chance of recovering and flourishing in Worcestershire, the support of communities is vital across the county to take action. This can be action on people’s local patch as well as conservation work on our nature reserves.

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust is the county’s leading local charity working towards a county rich in wildlife. With the support of our volunteers and members we manage over 3,000 acres of land for wildlife and people across Worcestershire. We work with organisations and landowners to protect and connect wildlife sites across the county. We also work with and inspire local communities and young people to care for wildlife where they live.  Worcestershire Wildlife Trust is one of 46 Wildlife Trusts working across the UK.

We’re Wild About Inclusion.  To us, this means inspiring, empowering and engaging people from all backgrounds, cultures, identities and abilities, to change the natural world for the better.  It also means cultivating inclusive workspaces that are free from discrimination, where differences are valued, everyone can be themselves and flourish, just like nature!

The project

The project is one year in and we have already achieved a great deal of engagement with the local community, especially in delivering nature improvements such as tree planting on the nature reserve and building links with the local schools. The new officer will continue to lead on the great work that has already been achieved and build on those local connections to strengthen our roots into the community.

Monkwood nature reserve is a semi-ancient woodland owned by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust and managed in partnership with Butterfly Conservation, with whom we co-own Little Monkwood. The Trust has been successful in fundraising to expand, connect and protect Monkwood for the first time in over three-hundred years through purchasing land to the immediate west of Monkwood at Green Farm. This has been made possible due to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Severn Waste Services, The Bannister Charitable Trust, L G Harris Charitable Trust, 3DTotal.com and generous private donations from many members and supporters of our work.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Engagement Officer to continue to work with colleagues to deliver a range of community engagement activities, both on Green Farm and within the local community.  We will be working with local schools and colleges, groups such as Wildgoose Rural Training CIC, faith groups and other community organisations. They will also work with stakeholders and colleagues to establish new nature trails and improve the accessibility of this wonderful site.

Some evening and regular weekend working will be required, a full driving licence is essential. This is 0.6 FTE/21 hours per week position on a one-year fixed term contract.

The role will be largely based at Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, Lower Smite Farm, Hindlip, Worcester WR3 8SZ with regular travel to Green Farm adjacent to Monkwood Nature Reserve to the north of Worcester.
