Position details
Commitment:
Any DayPurpose of the role
Our heathland site around Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley is an incredibly important resource for local wildlife. Locally, we’ve lost around 97% of our heathland in Worcestershire so what is left is incredibly valuable for wildlife and for cultural history.
We are restoring heathland back to its former glory. As part of this we would like to understand more about how local wildlife uses our nature reserve. This is where you can help us.
We are looking for a team of volunteers to help us set up trail cameras across the site so we can catalogue the species present in the area, their behaviour and estimated numbers. This information can help with our future management of the site.
Type of work
Some examples of typical tasks involved are listed below:
- Helping with placement and set up of trail cameras
- Collecting the data from the trail cameras
- Reviewing and cataloging the data from the trail cameras
- Sharing the footage and findings with the wider staff and volunteer team
Experience and skills required
- Interest and enthusiasm for nature and wildlife conservation
- Comfortable in reviewing and cataloguing video data
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to work alone
Days/times we would like you to be available:
This is a flexible role, meaning there are no set times. It can work around your schedule. We'd anticipate half a day a fortnight to retrieve memory cards and some time at home to review the footage - this will depend on how many there are in the team and how many cameras we're able to have across the site.
Benefits
A great opportunity to share your interests and skills with like-minded wildlife enthusiasts. You will meet plenty of new people and help us understand the wildlife using Worcestershire’s heathland.
We’re Wild About Inclusion
To us, this means inspiring, empowering and engaging people from all backgrounds, cultures, identities and abilities, to change the natural world for the better. It also means cultivating inclusive workspaces that are free from discrimination, where differences are valued, everyone can be themselves and flourish, just like nature!
