Introduction to Rock Science Investigation Unit

Meet Lithic Liz and find out how she needs our help. Can Mary save her rock collection and can your class solve Lithic Liz’s challenges?

Challenge 1 - How can we classify Liz’s rocks?

Find out how to classify rocks by testing the properties of rocks and looking at their rock family features.

Challenge 2 - What do we need to make soil?

Before we can find out about types of soil, how does soil even get made in the first place? Discover the ingredients needed to make soil and have a go at creating your own.

Challenge 3A - What types of soil are there?

Visit Janice’s garden and investigate what type of soil Janice has.

Challenge 3B - What are the three soil layers?
