Volunteering

Local Groups

We've got six active groups of volunteers across Worcestershire who organise walks, talks and fundraising events as well as get involved with practical conservation work parties and survey work.  Our groups bring together people with an interest in celebrating and enjoying our county’s wildlife.

You’ll be made very welcome at their regular events, whether you attend an interesting talk or go for a stroll with them. You may even like to get involved with helping to organise future events!

Find out more about our local groups below, discover their activities and events in your local area on our what's on pages or take a look at volunteering opportunities near you.

We're hoping to recruit new committees for our Worcester and Droitwich groups whereas some of our other groups are looking for one or two extra pairs of hands to help on their committees; please see below for information in your local area.

Our what's on pages have lots of information about what's happening across the county.

Bromsgrove & NE Worcestershire

Our new committee members in the Bromsgrove and northeast Worcestershire area are up and running and have organised a series of events for 2024. If you'd like to join them please get in touch.  You don't need committee experience or knowledge of wildlife, we're looking for enthusiastic people to help run the group.  If you have a few hours a month (if that) to spare and are interested in finding out more, please get in touch with Elise on 01905 754919.

You can see what the group are up to in their latest Bromsgrove and NE Worcestershire Local Group newsletter.

Droitwich

The committee of our Droitwich Local Group stood down at the end of 2022 following several years of running talks and walks in and around the Droitwich area. We're looking for new committee members to take this group forward - whether it's organising illustrated talks and/or guided walks or whether you fancy organising something completely different. Our local groups help to inspire and connect people in their area with wildlife and the natural world so you don't need to have experience or be an expert but you need to love nature.  If you have a few hours a month (if that) to spare and are interested in finding out more, please get in touch with Elise on 01905 754919.

Malvern

Welcome! We’re a lively and active group discovering and enjoying wildlife around the beautiful Malvern Hills.  Our area covers Malvern, Upton upon Severn and surrounding villages. All our meetings and activities are open to non-members. More details of these as well as news and other information are on our own Malvern group website.

We really look forward to meeting you – you’ll find us to be a warm and friendly group who are very enthusiastic about wildlife conservation in our area.

Meetings and Events

Our popular indoor meetings  normally consist of an illustrated talk on a wildlife or landscape topic.

  • Time: 7.30pm
  • Admission: £2.50 (payable on the door)

We also organise outdoor meetings throughout the year. These include walks close to home and further afield to special areas of wildlife interest, often accompanied by enthusiastic and expert naturalists.

See our calendar or download our spring newsletter for more information.

Get involved

We’re always delighted to hear from anyone willing to help. Perhaps you could help with teas and coffees at meeting, help to organise our activities, take photos for our displays, rattle a tin, make a cake, hold a coffee morning, provide a raffle prize or help in some other way? We’re always keen to hear new ideas.

Your local nature reserve

The Knapp and Papermill nature reserve at Alfrick Pound is perhaps the most special of the many reserves in our area with a diverse range of habitats along the picturesque Leigh Brook. For those keen on more active volunteering, weekday working parties are held through the winter months. No practical experience is required as guidance is given; visit our Knapp work party page for more information.

Recent sightings

We’d love to know if you’ve spotted anything exciting in our local area. For more information about recording sightings of wildlife visit the website of the Worcestershire Biological Records Centre or the Trust's Wildlife Sightings page to report wildlife that you've seen locally.
