Walking on The Devil's Spittleful by Beccy Somers

Join the local community on a walk from Bewdley to The Devil's Spittleful...

It’s that time of year again on the heathland where the dawn and dusk choruses are getting going. As well as the beautiful melody of skylarks trickling down over the bright yellows of the gorse and broom, we can hear blackcaps singing from the trees and blackbirds serenading us with their flutey tunes.

Last spring, we took a journey from Bewdley to The Devil's Spittleful with pupils and teachers from Bewdley School and some members of the local community,. We timed the walks at dawn and dusk to maximise the opportunity to hear as many birds as possible and participants recorded all the amazing sounds we heard along the way.

Many thanks to Bewdley School for providing us with the dawn chorus soundscape and to seven-year-old Farrah Taibi for the dusk chorus soundscape.

Why not sit back and join local residents on their journey through our magical heathland...
