Practical conservation volunteering

Haymaking at Penorchard MeadowsHaymaking at Penorchard Meadows

Small teams of friendly volunteers regularly get together on many of our nature reserves, giving you the opportunity to help wildlife and wild places right on your doorstep.

I love being outdoors and enjoy the camaraderie of work parties. When I first started I learnt a lot of new skills.

The groups help maintain wildlife habitats by carrying out a wide range of conservation tasks including vegetation clearance, tree planting, fencing, pond clearance or installing bird boxes.

These sessions are a great way to get some exercise and meet other people who enjoy working in the great outdoors. Work parties take place at weekends and on weekdays throughout the year. All ages welcome and no previous practical experience required - just enthusiasm.

To find out more about what's going on near you, download our autumn-winter reserve work party timetable. Take a look at where we need volunteers most on our volunteer opportunities page.

If you're interested in getting involved, please email Helen or call him (or the relevant contact) on 01905 754919.

Roving volunteers

Our roving volunteers meet every Tuesday & Thursday at Lower Smite Farm at 9.15am. We provide transport from here to reserves around the county carrying out a wide variety of tasks from coppicing to haymaking. The group is always led by somebody from the reserves team.
