Take action for wildlife in Redditch at Apple Day

An exciting nature project in Redditch is supporting residents across the district to help create and improve wildlife habitats in their neighbourhoods.

Nextdoor Nature, led by Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, supports community-led action for nature and offers local people the chance to get involved.

The forthcoming Apple Day in Headless Cross will be an opportunity to find out more about Nextdoor Nature and discover how to get involved.

Project Officer Yasmina Ashcroft will be listening to local people's views and encouraging residents to get involved with taking practical action that will help bring about positive change for communities and nature across Redditch.

Yasmina said "We're all too aware of the wide-scale losses of wildlife in this country; a recent report has found that one in six species is at risk of extinction in the UK, for example.

"Perhaps what we're less aware of is the increasing gap between ourselves and the natural world. But by communities taking practical action, we've got the power to bring about positive change; for ourselves, for our community and for nature.

"What that change looks like is up to individual residents and we can help to develop and support their ideas or skills. Whether you want to build bird boxes, plant trees or grow veggies, there are people living nearby who want to help and can show you how."

The Apple Day is being held at Headless Cross Community Orchard just off Birchfield Road, Headless Cross, on Saturday 7th October, between 11am and 3pm. Yasmina will be available to chat to attendees about wildlife and how people can take action to help it.
