People who help wildlife were celebrated in an awards ceremony on Friday 3rd August.

25 Wildlife Heroes were presented with their awards by Colin Raven, Director of Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. The local wildlife conservation charity launched the awards in spring as part of their 50th birthday celebrations.

Rae Howard-Louvaine, Senior Engagement Officer for the Trust and organiser of the Wildlife Heroes awards, explained “We appealed for nominations earlier in the year and have been delighted by the response; it’s great to know that there are so many people that are doing their bit to help wildlife right across Worcestershire.

“Thank you to everyone who nominated a Hero and thank you too to all our Wildlife Heroes for their work in caring for wildlife throughout our county.

“We have such a range of Wildlife Heroes – from people who are creating and nurturing their gardens or schoolgrounds for wildlife to people who care for injured wildlife and from people who inspire others about how brilliant our natural world is to people who monitor and record where wildlife is.”

Celebrating helping wildlife

The Wildlife Heroes awards were launched in April and aim to highlight and applaud individuals, groups, communities, businesses and schools that have helped wildlife during the last 50 years.

Wildlife Heroes receive an invitation to an awards ceremony at the Trust’s headquarters, Lower Smite Farm, as well as a certificate to recognise their contribution and a specially commissioned pin badge. They will also be added to the Trust’s Wildlife Heroes county map (see below).

Rae added “This was the first of several awards ceremonies and we’re looking forward to meeting those Heroes that couldn’t make Friday evening at another ceremony in the future.

“Nominations for the awards are still open so we’d encourage everyone to have a think about who their Wildlife Heroes are and get in touch.”
