Residents across Worcestershire are being invited to discover more about the fascinating creatures and habitats found in our county.

Worcestershire Wildlife Trust runs a series of courses to help adults find out more about the natural world on our doorstep. The courses are led by local experts with a wealth of knowledge about their subject and Worcestershire’s wildlife.

Suzi Richer, Communications Assistant, explained “We’ve been running courses for many years now and they’ve proved a really popular way for people to either dip their toes into the world of wildlife or increase the knowledge they already have.

“We don’t expect people to be wildlife experts to attend our courses. In fact, we’re even running a series of courses for absolute beginners.

“The courses are friendly and informal with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and get advice.”

Wetland Wildlife

Led by the Trust’s Water and Wetlands Officer, Phil Smith, this course will cover the importance of wetlands in Worcestershire, how we can best manage land for water and wetland species as well as how to identify common or interesting wetland plants and wildlife.

The course will involve a visit to the Gwen Finch wetland nature reserve, one of the Trust reserves that is normally closed to the public because of the sensitive nature of the habitat and wildlife.

Suzi continued “All our courses involve an indoor presentation and the chance to get out and put the newly-learned knowledge into practice.

“We’ve got a wide range of courses this year. As well as the chance to discover more about wetland wildlife, participants can also find out more about wildlife in their gardens, arable and meadow plants and identifying trees.

“People can learn about woodland insects, crickets, grasshoppers and even fungus – there really is something to interest everyone.”

All courses cost £15 per person and take place around the county. Places are limited and booking is essential for all courses. Further information can be found on our Courses for Adults page and bookings made by calling Suzi on 01905 754919.
