Love is in the air for wildlife as well as humans in February.
Staff at Worcestershire Wildlife Trust are hoping that loving partners will treat couples of the furrier kind to a Valentine’s gift. By ‘adopting’ one of several species of wildlife as a gift for their loved one, those enjoying Valentine’s Day can help wildlife while celebrating their relationship.
Adopt-a-Dormouse
Becky Bradshaw-King, fundraising assistant for the Trust, explained “Our adopt-a-species scheme enables people to ‘virtually’ adopt one of six animals that our work across Worcestershire is helping to protect.
“The animals have all been chosen because of declining numbers or because their habitats need protecting. We undertake a lot of conservation on our own nature reserves but our work also advising landowners how best to manage their land for wildlife, offering advice about wildlife gardening to householders and helping children to understand the value of nature and wildlife.
“Monies raised from people adopting an otter, dormouse or barn owl will help us to continue this work. It’s also a great gift for animal and nature lovers.”
The Adopt-a-Species scheme has raised more than £5,000 so far; funds that have helped the Trust protect and improve a range of wildlife habitats on their nature reserves.
