Hedgehogs, worms and wellies; families are being encouraged to go on an adventure with Worcestershire Wildlife Trust this autumn.

Hedgehog (c) Tom MarshallStaff and volunteers from the local wildlife conservation charity are running a series of fun activities to help families make the most of the changing season.

Starting with Hooray for Hedgehogs on Saturday 13th October, the sessions are designed as fun ways to help families explore the natural world and discover what they can do to help wildlife at home.

Sadie Carr Simons, engagement officer for the organisation, explained “I love the changing colours at this time of year and there’s nothing better than getting wrapped up and exploring the outdoors.

“As the temperatures drop, though, some of our wildlife have a hard time so as well as exploring the farm and looking for autumn treats, we’ll also be taking a fun look at how we can all do a little bit to help wildlife.”

Hooray for Hedgehogs will allow families to discover more about our prickly garden friends including what they eat, where they live and what they need to do to stay safe.

The self-guided Spooky Welly Walk gives families the chance to explore the Trust’s farm between Worcester and Droitwich whilst searching for pumpkins and collecting autumn treats to make a hanging decoration to take home.

In Wonderful Worms, the team will be leading families on an adventure to learn about why worms are so important and everyone will get the chance to make their own wormery.

Get outdoors & have fun

Sadie added “These sessions are a great opportunity to get outdoors, breathe in some fresh air and indulge in some screen-free time.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming families and having fun exploring the farm.”

All activities are aimed at 4 to 11 year olds and take place at Lower Smite Farm, between Worcester and Droitwich Spa.

Hooray for Hedgehogs – Sat 13th Oct, 10am-12noon, £3.50 per child, booking essential by email or calling 01905 754919
