Gardening at Lower Smite Farm
Visiting Lower Smite Farm or one of our nature reserves with your school? We've answered some of your questions below...
What will I get up to during my visit?
We have a wide range of activities here and have developed a programme of exploration for your visit. Your teachers may have chosen for you to discover:
- Pond dipping
- Nature detectives
- Orienteering
- Farming
- Minibeasts hunting
- Rocks and soils and much more besides
Lower Smite Farm has a classroom and toilets for you and your friends to use. It also has a picnic area and playground with a sandpit for you to enjoy at lunchtime!
What wildlife might I see?
- Dragonflies, tadpoles and water beetles
-
Trees, flowers and vegetables

- Big hills and small woods
- Old buildings and machinery
- Fields and wildlife
What should I bring?
We will be outside a lot so you should:
- Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket if you've got them … if we get good weather we can hang them all up in the shed!
- Wear wellies in winter and old trainers in summer.
- Make sure you have a sun hat and sunscreen in the summer
And you'll need to eat too so:
- Bring a packed lunch and a drink. We have recycling and compost bins here so let’s try and make as little rubbish as possible!
Who might I see?
- Mr Mole lives under a tree in the woodland. His favourite food is earthworm soup made for him by Mrs Mole. Keep an eye open for his front door during your activities.
