Gheluvelt Park is to become the centre of nature-inspired activities on Tuesday 31st May with Worcestershire Wildlife Trust’s Wild Worcester project joining forces with staff from The Pump House Environment Centre.

Mininbeast hunting (c) Debs Richardson BullWith the children free from the classroom and parents searching frantically for cost-friendly entertainment, the Trusts will be offering a range of free activities for both children and adults to get involved with. They will also be revealing top tips on how to turn our own gardens into havens of nature and lend a helping hand to urban wildlife.

The action will include creating bee hotels to making craft bees as well as learning about the newts and slow-worms that live alongside us in gardens and other green spaces.

There will also be a miniature trail around the Pump House garden, which is usually closed off to the public, providing children with an ideal opportunity to discover minibeasts and enjoy the park in all its hidden glory.

Hannah Thomas, Engagement Officer for the Trust, commented “This event is particularly special as we have unprecedented access to The Pump House wildlife garden, meaning both children and adults can experience the beauty of the park and can appreciate all it has to offer.

The event is part of the Trust’s Wild Worcester project, which encourages Worcester residents to celebrate the special wildlife they share their city with. The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The open event will commence at 11am with activities rounding off at 4pm. Participants of all ages are welcome to attend; activities are free but donations will be welcomed.
