Worcestershire Wildlife Trust are issuing their final call for entries to their annual photography competition.

The conservation charity is looking for photographs that reflect the diversity of our countryside and wildlife – from Stourbridge to Evesham and Redditch to Upton. Winning photographs will feature in the Trust’s 2013 calendar, on sale from May.

Hoverfly (c) Peter SmithWendy Carter, communications manager for the Trust, explained “The competition is now in its third year and we’re constantly impressed by the photographs that are entered. We’ve had between 150 and 200 entries per competition so far which doesn’t necessarily sound like a lot but we have great difficulty choosing the winning shots.

“We’re looking for images that really capture a moment – whether that’s a field of dancing wildflowers, the struggle for a species to survive a harsh winter or a person’s encounter with wildlife. All we ask is that any images entered have been taken on one of our 70+ nature reserves.”

All entries to the competition are also considered for the Trust’s range of greetings and Christmas cards that are sold to raise money for conservation work throughout Worcestershire.

Choosing the perfect shot

The Devil's Spittleful (c) Justin HeathWendy continued “Cold winter evenings provide the perfect opportunity for people to look through the photos they’ve taken throughout the year.

“We'll hopefully have some crisp and sunny winter days to give people the chance to get out and about to capture some really beautiful winter scenes.”

Sales of the calendar will be launched at the Trust’s Tiddesley Wood Open Day on 6th May. Several reprints were needed of the 2012 calendar so this is a great opportunity to have your photo hanging on walls across the county and beyond.
