You don't always have to be outside to get a good feeling from nature.

A Surprising Mid-Summer Day

June 21st always has a magical feel about it.  I have to admit I don't often see the start to the day but I usually like to be out and about to enjoy the long evening.

Today, however, my time outside did not really present any opportunity for a new blog and the arrangements made for me for Fathers' Day prevented me from making use of the long evening outside.

I did, however, receive these 3 photos of my granddaughter.  She lives in London, in quite a busy urban environment, but her mum and dad take her to one of the local parks most days.  She usually enjoys the play equipment but these photos show her as she discovered the small garden for the first time.  She's clearly delighted by the roses and other flowers. She seems to have an innate understanding of the beauty of the natural world.  I know it's not 'wild' life but it is part of the natural world.  She was clearly enjoying a 'Random Act of Wildness'!

If any of you are grandparents you will understand the joy these photos bring.

One of the projects supported by Springwatch this year was the Twitter feed #wildlifethroughmywindow specifically set up to share experiences of the natural world with people who were not always able to get outside.  It's clear that even contact with wildlife in this manner can improve the quality of life for many people.

I suppose my Random Act of Wildness today was enjoyed vicariously but nonetheless powerfully for that.

So if you cannot get out for any reason there are always alternatives for letting wildlife improve your quality of life.
